FILM: A Perfect 14
DIRECTED BY: Giovanna Morales Vargas
A Perfect 14 explores the world of plus size models fighting to reshape the fashion industry and the beauty standards of society. The film follows the journeys of models Elly Mayday (Canada), Kerosene Deluxe (Netherlands) and Laura Wells (Australia) as they struggle against our culture's distorted perception of body image. A Perfect 14 also questions the fashion industry leaders and pioneers in the world's meccas and holds them accountable for their responsibility in size-based segregation.

A personal look at the extradinary life, career, and artistry of Alexander McQueen. Through exclusive interviews with his closest friends and family, recovered archives, exquisite visuals and music, MCQUEEN is an authentic celebration and thrilling portrait of an inspired yet tortured fashion visionary.
"McQueen" works both as a spectacular visual album of his work and an achingly moving account of the incomplete life behind it.”
-Guy Lodge, Variety
“Ian Bonhote’s documentary, McQueen, is a compassionate take on British fashion designer Alexander McQueen's life.”
-Jeanette Catsoulis, NY Times
What McQueen reminds those obsessives and laypeople alike is that fashion is an incredibly emotional art form, and McQueen's work was some of the most moving there was or ever will be.”

THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO ANDRÉ
A film by Kate Novack
André Leon Talley has been a fixture in the world of fashion for so long that it’s difficult to imagine a time when he wasn’t defining the boundaries of great style. Kate Novack’s intimate portrait, The Gospel According to André takes viewers on an emotional journey from André’s roots growing up in the segregated Jim Crow South to become one of the most influential tastemakers and fashion curators of our times.
Novack’s film draws fascinating, heretofore unexplored connections, between the elegance of André’s beloved grandmother and the Black Church of his youth and his later iconic, barrier-breaking work at publications like Women’s Wear Daily, W and Vogue. Weaving together a wealth of archival footage from the most glamorous moments in fashion history with André’s poignant reflections on his life and career, The Gospel According to André is a cinematic monument to one of the most unique figures of 20th Century American culture.
Produced by the team who brought viewers The First Monday in May and Page One: Inside The New York Times and featuring commentary from fashion luminaries including Anna Wintour, Marc Jacobs and Tom Ford, The Gospel According to André is an indispensable addition to the growing canon of fashion documentary.
Fashion In Film Educational Screening:
In this vibrant film series, "Carmen Jones is a retelling of Bizet's opera about an independent woman who lives by her own rules and discards men when she grows tired of them. The characters were changed from Europeans to African-Americans on an Army base in the deep South.
Preminger admitted, This was really a fantasy, as was Porgy and Bess. The all-black world shown in these films doesn't exist, at least not in the United States. We used the musical-fantasy quality to convey something of the needs and aspirations of colored people."

Yves Saint Laurent’s life from 1967 to 1976, during which time the famed fashion designer was at the peak of his career.
In this controversial and unauthorized biography, we see that not only did St. Laurent define himself and his design style during this period, but through both his persona and his business, made an indelible mark on the very era. Director Bertrand Bonello’s trademark fascination with the sensual, the sensory and the hedonistic makes a perfect fit to explore St. Laurent’s now-mythological decade of deliverance. With stunning attention to detail, including a climactic recreation of St. Laurent’s revolutionary Moroccan-inspired 1976 collection, Bonello captures the spirit of creative genius in a time of great freedom, even as emotional vertigo threatened St. Laurent’s own spectacular heights.
A brilliant cast, including Jeremie Renier as St. Laurent’s life and business partner Pierre Berge (who refuses to this day to lend credence to Bonello’s film) and Louis Garel as St. Laurent’s male model lover, as well as Helmut Berger and Brady Corbet in memorable appearances, add to the rich, luxurious texture of the hunt for beauty and perfection.
